night splint plantar fasciitis

Should you use night splints for plantar fasciitis?

Probably, as stretching is a really important part of the treatment for plantar fasciitis.

For more on what plantar fasciitis is, see this and for more on what can be done to treat it, see this. What is becoming increasingly clear when it comes to plantar fasciitis, there is not really the “one” cure. A suite of treatments is often needed to get over it. This is what we recommenced. The pain needs to be managed. The load in the plantar fascia needs to be reduced and healing needs to be facilitated. An important part of reducing the load is the stretching of the calf muscles. Numerous research studies have shown that it is very helpful, so it is an important part of the suite of options directed at treating plantar fasciitis.

This means that the calf muscles should be done at least daily, using that wall stretch with the heel on the ground. Another useful aid to facilitate this is the use of night splints:

These night splints put a gentle pressure during the night on the calf muscles and the plantar fascia in the foot and facilitate the stretching of the calf muscles. They are really helpful if that first step pain in the morning from the plantar fasciitis is really painful
